This is Trauma Awareness Month, and the emphasis this year is on Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) in children. Truama is the leading cause of death in children in the US. Over 1 million children will have a TBI this year, and 30,000 will end up with permanent disabilities. The majority of them could have been prevented with some simple safety precautions. The Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services has created a video about preventing TBI in children. You can see it on our "Public Safety" page at http://www.spotsyrescue.org/content/safety/ For additional information on traumatic injuries, go to the American Trauma Society at http://www.amtrauma.org/
