March 24, 2008

Saturday, the 22of March, our agency participated in Lifepoint Church's Second Easter Egg Drop where thousands of eggs were dropped from a helicopter. Over ten thousand people came out; half had to be turned away.

After making our way through the heavy traffic the crew set up as quickly as possible. Children and their parents immediately noted our presence and a crowd quickly gathered. In 30 minutes we had depleted all of the promotional products we brought with us. The day continued like that. Children and their parents would come in surges of crowds to see what SVRS was about and take a tour of our truck.

The host church treated F/R personnel like royalty. We were given refreshments, thanked over and over again for our presence and treated to a free Chic-fil-A lunch. We represented ourselves well. Members were in full uniform, exemplified professionalism and courtesy despite consistent crowds of people swarming our area.

This event particularly reminded us that we can go beyond the tight quarters we're confined to in an ambulance. While the ultimate goal of SVRS is to provide emergency care to the citizens and patrons of Spotsylvania County; we do have the option and capability of doing more. To see the happy faces of thousands of kids that we saw yesterday was indescribable.

Appreciation goes to SVFD Co. 4 who assisted us throughout the entire day; LeRon Lewis (Public Relations), Jeannie Long, Kim Madison and Justin Langridge(Recruitment and Retention) for working the event. Thanks to Jim Lehnert for quickly getting the remainder of the PR materials together during the mad dash back to station 1 for more promotional products. Also, the request to have us at their event again this year (even though it was outside of Spotsylvania) is a testament to the impression that members made last year kudos to John and Sherry Weedon, Mary Loudin and Jeannie Long.

Units: Medic 4-1 and Response 4 Staffed ALS
