| At mid-afternoon on Saturday, 8/25, Medic 4-2 was dispatched for mutual aid to Caroline County for an ATV accident. The incident occurred at a campground at the opposite end of the county from Spotsylvania, and involved a moderate speed head-on collision between a dirt bike and an ATV. On arrival, FD found two patients on the ground, both with head trauma and altered level of consciousness. Based on the injuries and distance to the nearest hospital, the decision was made to fly both patients.
When Medic 4-2 arrived, they found numerous fire trucks and POV EMS personnel were on-scene, but no Caroline EMS transport units had arrived. An EMS unit from Ladysmith did arrive shortly thereafter. Both patients were packaged and initial treatment started prior to the arrival of the first medivac chopper. AirCare transported one patient to MCV, while LifeEvac transported the other. |
