| I would like to thank the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad for going above and beyond the call of duty.
My father was in a serious car accident in Fredericksburg, in which he sustained multiple life-threatening injuries and had to remain in Fairfax for months.
After his final leg surgery, he was released to return to a rehabilitation center closer to his family in Mechanicsville. He has been on Social Security and Medicare for almost 10 years. Medicaid is still pending, so he could not afford a private ambulance service.
My sisters and I were not sure how we would transport him the 90-plus miles from the hospital to the rehabilitation center safely. A relative contacted the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad, which agreed to help even though my father is not from Spotsylvania. They stepped in without any hesitation.
Some people may think the word "volunteer" means "less trained," but I disagree. These volunteer workers are not only just as professional as paid workers, they are also equally trained.
I cannot thank Carolyn Marsh, Robert and Barbara Morrison, and the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad enough for helping out total strangers from a different part of town in a time of need. They are only a small example of the wonderful, talented people working for Spotsylvania County without asking for anything in return.
I ask that the Spotsylvania community continue to support this wonderful organization, because you never know when you may need their helping hand.
