| Members of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad are pleased to announce the inauguration of their EMS Bike Patrol Division. While not a new concept, Emergency Medical Services provided on bicycles is a first for the agency and one of few in the region. Coordinated under the public relations department, the Bike Patrol will have the capability to initiate basic life support measures until the arrival of an ambulance or further advanced level care. EMS on bikes will allow faster patient access at highly populated events and areas that might otherwise be difficult access for ambulances or other emergency response vehicles.
Although still in the beginning stages, the Bike Team is in preparation to license the bicycles through the Va. Dept. of Health. This will allow them to carry oxygen, medications and other advanced life support equipment. Further the team intends on obtaining certification and accreditation through the International Police Mountain Bike Association, EMS Division.
The Bike Team will make their first appearance at Spotsylvania County's 3rd Annual Stars and Stripes Spectacular Sunday, July 1st. The team can also be seen at future parades and public events throughout the region.
The citizens of Spotsylvania County will truly benefit from the creative and innovative ideas put into action by the volunteers members of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad.
