Rollover Accident on Jefferson Davis Contributes to Traffic Chaos

As units were being released from a fatal accident on I-95, they were dispatched to a rollover accident on northbound Jefferson Davis Highway. Units arriving from the north found an SUV on it's side in the ditch, while units coming from the south found another accident involving three vehicles. The two accidents were around 1000 ft apart, separated by a small rise in the road. Adding to the confusion was the extremely heavy traffic caused by drivers attempted to avoid the backup on I-95. The northbound lanes were blocked at the rollover accident, while the southbound ones were blocked at the second accident, requiring firefighters to alternate traffic in each direction. One patient was transported to Mary Washington Hospital, and all the other drivers involved refused transport. The blockage of Jefferson Davis (AKA Rt 1) contributed to the traffic chaos, as it blocked the only alternative to I-95.
