Around 01:30 in the morning, units were dispatched for a residential structure fire at 333 3'rd St, off of Tidewater Trail. On arrival, units found a single-story structure well involved, endangering several vehicles and an adjacent structure. Additionally, shortly after the first units arrived, power lines separated from the house, falling into one of the few clear areas available for firefighters to operate from.
Quick work by the crew of Wagon 4, prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent house, but the primary house involved was a lost cause. Defensive operations were established and the bulk of the fire was knocked down shortly thereafter. Units continued moping up until shortly before 06:00.
Newspaper reports indicate that the tentative cause of the fire was an overloaded electrical extension cord and electrical outlet. The family of seven was left homeless, but only one person sustained injuries. One of the family members injured his ankle while fleeing the fire. He was transported to MWH for treatment and released. The adjacent house lost all the vinyl siding and the underlying plywood facing the fire was charred, but no structural damage occurred. Several cars parked in front of, or next to the building were also damaged or destroyed.
