Captain Carolyn Marsh, SVRS's Chief Operational Officer, was awarded the Excellence in EMS Award tonight at the Rappahannock Emergency Medical Services Council (REMS) Annual Regional Awards Banquet & Ceremony. As regional award winner for the Rappahanock EMS Council, Carolyn is now a nominee for the state to contend for the Governor's Award. The Excellence in EMS Award is the most prestigious award at the regional awards banquet.

An excerpt of Captain Marsh's nomination reads: "Mrs. Marsh has faithfully served as a member of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad (SVRS) for over 20 years. Her dedication is a true testament of her willingness to serve her community. With the exception of Mrs. Marsh, few can say that they have been actively involved with EMS for such a length of time. Ten of those years Mrs. Marsh has served as the leader of SVRS in the position of Captain. She executes those duties that would typically be the responsibility of a chief of a department. Mrs. Marsh is a virtuous woman who exemplifies the characteristics of a true leader. She possesses the tenacity necessary to effectively manage nearly 150 volunteer EMS providers. She does it with great passion and enthusiasm.

In her position at the Rappahannock Emergency Medical Services Council, Mrs. Marsh has assisted various EMS agencies in securing thousands of dollars in grant monies. In addition her enthusiasm for the 911 for Kids Program has significantly increased the number of students reached each year. Through partnering with local fire & rescue agencies she has made her mark in the community by reaching thousands of elementary students around the region.

For these reasons it is my distinct honor and pleasure to nominate Carolyn Marsh for the Excellence in EMS Award. Her well rounded approach in tackling the various aspects of EMS operationally and administratively; both in a paid and volunteer position are to be highly commended. She does it with grace, compassion, and zeal."

Congratulations Captain Marsh on this prestigious accomplishment. The members of SVRS wish you best of luck as you go for the Governor's Award in November!
