| On July 1, SVRS finally moved into the new combined Fire Rescue Station 4 in the 4 Mile Fork area of the county. The new station is located at the intersections of Falcon Drive, Bancroft Rd, and Clay Street, and has been in the works for several years. It will be staffed by career employees from Spotsylvania Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management during the day, and volunteers from Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad and Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department on nights and weekends.
The new station features 6 drive though bays, and sufficient space to house 4 ambulances, a wagon, an engine, and a heavy squad. There is sufficient space to also house a tower in the future if necessary. Office space is provided for all three agencies, the auxiliary, and the Sheriffs Department. Four bunk rooms, industrial kitchen, exercise room, male and female locker rooms, a large training/public gathering room, and copious storage space round out the equation.
The honor of the first volunteer call went to EMTs Tammy Thompson and Sue Caldwell, who responded to a chest pain call at 17:56. |
