Just before 0800 on Saturday morning, units were dispatched to a MVA involving a single vehicle on Benchmark Rd near Mine Rd. Upon arrival, units discovered a white passenger car with one occupant which had gone off the road, struck the far side of the ditch and spun back into the road way. There was heavy front end damage and both front airbags had been deployed. The single patient had been unrestrained and was found on the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle. The patient complained of back and neck pain, right arm pain and had an altered level of consciousness. He was extricated from the vehicle and immobilized with C-Spine precautions on a backboard. Upon further examination it was noted that the patient had left upper abdominal tenderness and diminished breath sounds. Squad 4 set up the LZ for Air Care in an adjacent field. The patient was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
