In 1974 there was a movement in progress to establish a volunteer rescue squad in Spotsylvania County. Much of the preliminary work was being completed, fundraising, purchasing of equipment, making the necessary supplies, and training. During that same time period there was a young doctor establishing a practice in Spotsylvania. When he became aware of the efforts to establish a rescue squad he wanted to contribute to the agency and approach those involved in the organization to determine how he could make a meaningful contribution. It was decided that every potential member would be required to have a physical prior to being accepted into membership. Dr. Paulino Sambat agreed to complete the physical on potential members for free as his contribution to the agency and did so foir 41 years. Doctor Sambat attended med school at the University of Santo Tomas / Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. He completed his internship in 1967 at Memorial Hospital South and his residency a Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and St. Barnabas Medical Center in 1970. |
