The members of Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad are there to answer the call whether on or off duty and whether on land or at sea.
Recently, one of our members did just that while on holiday. EMT-E Steve McNamara was on vacation and enjoying a cruise when he heard "Alpha Alpha Alpha" broadcast. The location was close to him, so he responded. When he arrived, he found a 76 year old male who was unresponsive, with no pulse and not breathing. Mr. McNamara started CPR and continued until the ship's EMS crew arrived, about 4 minutes later. The patient regained consciousness and was able to answer some questions during transport to the ship's infirmary. Unfortunately, the patient's condition deteriorated. He arrested again and ultimately died.

After EMS took over, Mr. McNamara stayed on scene and helped provide emotional support to the patient's wife and family, who were all on board to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of the patient and his wife. Our sincerest condolences to the gentleman's family and kudos to Mr. McNamara for his quick actions and use of his training and skills to help out wherever needed.
