| On Sunday, November 22, members of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad invited the public to the Arvel P. Shannon Training Center to celebrate it's opening. The center offers three large classrooms as well as a 'practical training' room complete with a completely stocked ambulance box and stairwell. In addition, there is a kitchen area and lounge. The facility is a center for the Virginia Department of OES EMSAT broadcasts, where EMS personnel can continue and update their education. In addition to EMS related classes and courses, public courses, such as CPR, will be offered in the future.
The Arvel P. Shannon Training Center is located at 8711 Courthouse Road, in the old Rescue Station One building. Upon the completion of the new Fire Rescue Station One, at Courthouse Commons Boulevard, the Training Center's renovations began. The Training Center is the first dedicated EMS training center in the area operated by a rescue organization.
The Training Center is named for and dedicated to Mrs. Arvel P. Shannon, who has long been a constant supporter of the squad and whose generous donations made it possible. |
